Over the years, I’ve read enough about Oracle founder Larry Ellison to have formed a not-at-all-favorable opinion of the man. Several years back, Oracle filmed a television commercial in Cambodia, featuring (if I recall correctly) peasants in a field, with explosions going off nearby. What that has to do with databases, I’ll never know.
Turns out, I’m not the only one with a dim view of Ellison. In the wake of Oracle’s acquisition of Sun, Java creator James Gosling left the company. He cites several reasons in this article, but my favorite is his comment regarding Ellison: “He’s the kind of person that just gives me the creeps.”
